On August 1, 2019, the Departments of Biotechnology and Microbiology jointly organised a lecture on “Gender Sensitisation”. The speaker was Dr. Khevana Desai, Department of Sociology, Mithibai College. The lecture was attended by 18 Teachers and 87 Students.
Dr. Desai began with a discussion of the myths about gender sensitisation. The actual meaning of the work ‘gender’, the difference between ‘gender’ and ‘sex’, patriarchal ideologies that operate in the culture, in rituals, and even in language, were all discussed. She also touched upon the issues of LGBTQ+. Dr. Desai went on to discuss the Vishaka Guidelines and the rationale for the formation of Internal Complaints Committee (ICC) and Women Development Cell (WDC) in Universities and colleges.
The lecture was highly interactive and the audience was greatly benefited from the awareness created by Dr. Desai.
