Program Outcome

Program outcomes:

This program is designed for the students to specialize in the field of Microbiology, emphasizes on  various branches of Biological sciences like Biochemistry, Genetics, Molecular biology and Immunology as well as branches of Microbiology such as Food microbiology, Medical microbiology and Industrial Microbiology. Students will gain knowledge about Chemistry till second year and Zoology in First year. Third year students will learn Food production and processing as an Applied Component along with Core Microbiology. Students will be exposed to the operational environment in the field of Medical, Food processing  and Pharmaceutical sectors. Students will enhance their professional, communication and employability skills through grounding in sectoral knowledge.

Course Outcomes:

To learn about importance of validation and calibration of scientific equipment in industries and laboratories. The laboratory techniques and experiments will give students hands on competence in fundamentals of microbiology and basic techniques in Microbiology. To make students aware of the techniques of staining microorganisms and different types of microscopes used to observe it. To explain different mechanisms & methods to control microorganisms, different techniques for isolation and preservation of microorganisms. To learn about the basic structure of DNA and bacterial DNA. To make students aware of the unique chemistry of living systems that results in large part from the remarkable and diverse properties of Biomolecules. To give insight of taxonomy which will help students with identification of organisms and also methods of analysis used in classification. To explain structure and activities of microbial communities, microbial interactions and interactions with macroorganisms and population biology of microorganisms. To learn about terminology of infection and disease, public awareness program, methods for isolation and detection of pathogens, various aspects of safety in Clinical laboratory, Enzyme kinetics and various analytical techniques and its principle. To learn about control and prevention of food borne microbes, procedures for microbially fermented foods and preservation methods for different foods. To explain different types of fermentations, media formulation for fermentation, biofertilisers, biosensors, biopesticide usage and bioremediation.  To learn about the sequence of events, mechanism, enzymes and proteins involved in replication of DNA in prokaryotes and eukaryotes, central dogma of Biology, concept of mutations, types and effects, mechanism of gene transfer in bacteria and genetic recombination. To learn pathogenesis, mode of transmission, clinical features, prophylaxis, and diagnosis of various diseases, structure and function of immunoglobulin and antigen-antibody reactions. To gain knowledge about biological membrane transport, ETC, Bioluminescence, catabolic and anabolic pathways. To learn about the applications of microbes and its strain improvement in industrial microbiology, types of fermentation, bioreactors and its applications. To learn about rDNA technology, gene regulation, basic and advanced virology, Animal and plant tissue culture techniques, Quality assurance, quality control and industrial fermentation.
